Just because something says "natural" does not mean it can't hurt you!!! Scorpion bites are natural. Avalanches are natural. That doesn't mean that neither will harm you.
The very same applies to these multitudes of "natural" diet pills on the market. Let me make this perfectly clear - most of them are NOT safe to use for the time it takes to lose weight. Most of these pills contain items that should NEVER be used daily. Natural, yes, but that doesn't mean you need it or your body can tolerate it every day.
An extremely valuable healing herb is being used in this manner every day in countless weight loss combinations. I am speaking of Ephedra, also known as Ma Huang, also known as Mormon Tea. This herb is extremely valuable during times of lung congestion, for helping those suffering an acute asthma attack, and for treating respiratory difficulties that come with allergy attacks. It is used for these purposes for the short term only, and there is a reason for that - it is strong, and a small amount is usually all that is needed to alleviate the difficulties, then other herbs are used to repair and rebuild the body to prevent reoccurrence of these problems. And even then, responsible herbalists and responsible naturopathic doctors do not use it for those who have heart disease or heart problems, kidney problems, or adrenal problems except in very controlled amounts for the immediate effects, then use is discontinued.
Anyone with heart problems or kidney problems of any kind should not take ephedra in any form unless under the guidance of a medical professional. If you are not sure if you have a heart condition, then seek the guidance of a medical professional before using. You should also not use any product with ephedra if you are pregnant or nursing.
If your diet pill has in its list of ingredients Ephedra, Ephedrine, Guarana, Caffeine, Coffee, Ma Huang, or Mormon Tea, then you need to discontinue use of that product.
While these items may indeed increase your metabolism, the effects over the long term are negative. Your weight loss will cease after a few weeks. If you have a pre-existing condition such as one of those listed above, you could end up with a heart attack or renal failure. If you do not, you can still suffer from adrenal or renal stress due to the constant metabolic stimulation from ephedrines and caffeine. Your thyroid processes could also be adversely affected.
The only thing that truly works for weight loss is a proper, natural diet, coupled with adequate and proper exercise for your body. No diet pill can substitute for these. No diet shake can substitute for these. There are some safe herbs you can utilize to help your body return to a healthy state, such as chickweed, spirulina, kelp, and others, but they are not going to give you overnight results. Nothing in this world can guarantee you fast results on a permanent basis. You have to be an active participant in your weight loss and health programs for them to work, and for the results to remain permanent.
This may mean big lifestyle changes for most of you. If you are too lazy to do this, then your weight problem is going to be a daily battle for the rest of your life. Without the proper support, your body can only do so much. Herbs can only do so much. You have to be willing to stop the junk food, stop the junk drinks, stop caving in to the pressures of TV ads and just do what is right for your body. Natural, healthy food will give your body the nutrients it needs to correct its own imbalances without supplementation. It's the only one you have, you should protect your body and nurture it well.
Take a look at the healthy diet article here on my site. This offers basic tips to get you started on the way to a daily intake that is more beneficial nutritionally, as well as safer for weight loss. If you have high cholesterol problems or slow digestion or other similar difficulties, you may wish to start with a good general liver cleanse, also in an article here on this site. Set yourself up a daily exercise regimen. This does not have to be weightlifting or an expensive trip to the gym or purchasing every gimmicky piece of exercise equipment out there. Starting with a walk every day after some stretching will at least start revving up your metabolism. Steadily increase your distance each week. Do some stair-stepping - you don't need a fancy machine, just step up and down for 5 or 10 minutes at a time on your porch step or a box. Start simple, and work up, especially if you have been sedentary for a while. Isometric exercises as you sit for long periods of time at your desk can help, while also alleviating stress and keeping the blood flowing well. Isn't it worth it to spare 15 to 30 minutes a day to get a healthy body?
Avoid these gimmicky diets that seem to be so prolific, they all have their draw-backs and negative results. Avoid the hype that this one pill will do it all. Avoid those fat-burner claims that make it seem like you can eat anything you want and still lose weight. It just isn't going to happen. Avoid these "natural" pills that will miraculously change your life; they can be dangerous because these companies are misusing medicinal herbs, which is just as dangerous as misusing prescription or recreational drugs.
If you are in doubt as to how to start a safe reduction and exercise program for yourself, search your local area for a certified nutritional consultant, a naturopathic doctor, or a medical specialist in this field. They can take a look at your medical history, your goals, your age, and help you set up a good program for yourself.
Please, folks, don't allow valuable herbs to be banned by supporting the outrageous claims of these companies and sending them your hard-earned dollars. Spend your money wisely, and you will be healthier, your checkbook will be fuller, and you will ultimately lose the weight you wish to lose.
