Under
new guidelines from the Government, the NHS are committed to providing safe, sound
and supportive services to mental![]()
health patients. Specific measures will include:-
* 24-hour
helplines
* Network of 'outreach teams' who stay in contact with patients
and respond in crisis
* Better access to new drugs and reduced side effects.
* Extra hospital beds
* More trained staff
* More secure places for patients
who need it.
Secretary for Health Frank Dobson announced a new
investment of £700 million of which £500
million will go towards targeted change in the way services are implemented.
£120 million in new effective drug therapies. Plus £70 million in
training psychiatrists, mental health nurses and
supportive care staff.![]()
